April Song of the Month

Since we celebrate Easter this month, we'll be featuring a song that celebrates the resurrection of Christ.  April's song of the month will be "Christ Is Risen, He Is Risen Indeed!" by Keith and Kristyn Getty along with Ed Cash.

You can listen to it by clicking here, and read brief interview with Keith Getty about the song, along with the lyrics, here.  The song is also featured on the Getty's album Hymns for the Christian Life, which I highly recommend!

Since you can read about the author's own words about the song, I will just share some thougths on my favorite verse.  Verse 5 reads,

The power that raised Him from the grave
Now works in us to powerfully save;
He frees our hearts to live His grace--
Go, tell of His goodness!

Paul prays that his readers in Ephesus would know "the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places..." (Ephesians 1:19-20 ESV)

The power of God that raised Jesus from the dead is somehow the power of God toward us who believe.  What does this look like?  Paul goes on to explain:

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:4-7 ESV)

The resurrection doesn't just provide a happy ending for the Gospel writers.  It brings the dawn of a new creation that is already at work in our hearts and will be made complete in the coming ages. Praise God for His power that won the victory over death, and for His grace that works toward that victory in us.

Christ is risen.  He is risen indeed!
